Is it love?

Love is one of the most wonderful things man has ever experienced. It has its ups and downs, easy and hard times... It brings happiness... and sadness. Sometimes, total depression. Some people find it dreadful, disgusting, unfair...But love can uplift a person's spirit.

But, is it always love that dominates a person's heart?

Asking a girl to be your girlfriend for one day, is it love?

Hailing a girl as a sex figure, is it love?

Saying the I'm-gonna-die-without-you statement as a blackmail, is it love?

Pushing one self into a person's life, is it love?

Saying promises that are made to be broken, is it love?

It is absolutely not love. That's obsession. You are not in love, you are obsessed.

The ten commandments of christmas

It's Christmas season once again. Every body's busy preparing for the special occasion. But, have we prepared ourselves yet?

Here are the ten commandments of Christmas:

1. Thou shalt not think of thyself. Thou shall think of Jesus and His Father--and how to praise Them.

2. Thou shalt not dwell on material things and make money out of Jesus' birthday. Dwell on spiritual thoughts and make Jesus happy.

3. Honor the birthday celebrant with special acts to glorify Him. Don't honor people who use His name and birthday for their own benefit. Don't honor false gods like Santa Claus.

4. Thou shalt not engage in gluttony. Don't let thy tongue be thy master.

5. Thou shalt not encourage intoxication.

5. Thou shalt not increase pollution with excessive garbage and the use of fireworks.

7. Thou shalt not enjoy fault-finding, gossip and pollution of the mind.

8. Thou shalt not kill animals.

9. Thou shalt not gamble.

10. Thou shalt love Jesus and His Father. They love you dearly and unconditionally.

So, let us not focus on foods and gifts alone this Christmas. Let us prepare , above all, ourselves for the birthday celebration of our Lord Jesus Christ.

DEDOZ

The Division Schools Press Conference held at Sual Central School/Sual National High School on December 2-4, 2008 gave excitement to all the participants. In fact, a new group was formed: DEDOZ. The group is composed of five boys. But, I'd rather not reveal their names for anonymity.

The PNHS delegation was composed of eight (8) boys. Hence, if we will expand the group, it will be DEDOZENN.

Sorry if this post seems sensless. I just do not know what to write.

Choosing right

In a few months from now, students will begin to march as they will perform their graduation rites. The end of four long years in high school will finally greet us. Finally, we can breathe well and look forward to what will happen in the next chapter of our lives.

The question being raised now is: Seniors, have you decided yet what course you will take up in college?

By now, you must have fixed your mind already on a particular course. The one that you like best and prefer the most. You should be careful in picking a course
so that, at the end of the day, you will have no regret.

However, although people advise students to take up a course which they really like rather than what their parents like, there are still some who just tend to go with the flow of the trend. Most students prefer to take up in demand courses even though they are not interested about them. Often, this is the reason why students fail.
One good example of highly in demand courses is Nursing. Today, most students prefer to take up this course not because they are interested about the medical field but because of its promising benefits. In fact, students take up this course mainly because of the opportunity of working abroad and earning dollars.
As of this school year, there will be 20, 000 nursing students who will graduate from about 350 schools around the Philippines. With this figure, it is evident that more and more students want to take up nursing and more and more of them want to work abroad and give their families a better life.

With a failure rate of 60 %, say 8000 examinees will pass the board exam. Half of this number will most likely go to foreign countries to earn higher salaries than the ones being offered here in our country. While other countries overflow with nurses, our own nation runs out of them. Worst is the best nurses are the ones who leave our country. What is being left to us are less-skilled ones.

During the last ten years, it has been recorded that the Philippines deployed about 90,000 nurses abroad. This shows that we are deploying more than we are producing.

Higher pay, greener pasture, more opportunities -- we are blinded by these always. Are we that susceptible to the disease that is currently plaguing our country? Many nursing students get failing grades and just decide to shift course. Look at that, a waste of money! And that's because they did not choose right. Why not follow our hearts' desire instead of pushing ourselves to desire the undesirable?

Tracing the roots

Do you want to know where our calendar months originated? Well, read this!

JANUARY
-named sfter Jairus, the god of doors and gates who has two faces, which can look forward and backward.

FEBRUARY
-came from the word Februlia, a period of renewal or purification, which is often observed starting February 15th.

MARCH
-named after Mars, the god of war.

APRIL
-the origin of the name April is still being debated. It is originally thought to came from the word aperire which is Latin for "to open". This is an allusion to how the month of April ushers in the spring season when trees and flowers "open". Another etymology points to Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty. April is considered to be her month.

MAY
-comes from Maria, Greek goddess of plant growth and fertility. Her Roman counterpart Bona Dea is honored every May through a festival.

JUNE
-named after the goddess Juno, who rules marriage, home and women's affairs.

JULY
-named after Julius Caesar who was born in this month.

AUGUST
-named after Augustus Caesar--Julius Caesar's successor--who rose to power in this month.

SEPTEMBER
-named by using the prefix septem, which is Latin for seven. Originally, there were only ten months in the calendar with the period January to February, considered as month less. September is the 7th month in that first calendar.

OCTOBER
-came from the Latin word octo, which means eight. It was originally the 8th month in a ten-month calendar.

NOVEMBER
-came from novem, Latin for nine.

DECEMBER
-came from decem which means ten.

Now, were you able to get ideas about where our calendar months originated? Well, as we all know, everything in this world has its roots.

Great Molder

In life we meet challenges
We always face them as they bring changes
Like huge and heavy rocks being put on our back
While climbing a steep mountain over the track.

Sometimes we cry because of the pain
But we always smile when we gain
The pain penetrates but stays in a short while
But the gain is everlasting which gives us a smile.

Challenges are hard but we must not forget
That there are solutions we'll not regret
we will be happy at the end of the day
Just like little kids in a child's play.

We face challenges everyday. Each day that passes by gives us obstacles that may sometimes cause us to give up. But we must not forget that challenges do not last forever. They are given to us for us to be better. Challenges mold our personality and determine how far we can go.

So friends, do not give up with the challenges that you face! Continue the fight and reach for your goal!

Great Sailor

Traveling alone in the ocean of impediments
Focusing his eyes to see the island of achievements
Trying his best not to look at the darkness
Or he might get lost without the light of happiness.

Pounds of strong winds keep blocking his way
Waves of obstacles make the ship rock and sway
Bolts of lightning struck and made him blind
The roaring thunder made him deaf but he doesn't mind.

Albeit two of his senses left him alone
He still continues to sail, he doesn't mourn
He sails by heart which guides him on his endeavor
Rows his boat of perseverance to reach the shore.

Confidence is his shield through the storm
His strength comes from God who gave him his form
The compass of faith tells him the right direction
Soon he will be eating the fruits of his action.

Bad manners--Enough!

Here are some bad manners that turn people off:

1. Speaking when mouth is full. (Can you try to be civilized?)

2. Using cell phone while in company. (If you will keep on texting and calling someone while you are with your friends, better stay at home and lock yourself in your bedroom!)

3. Interrupting people's conversation. (Say "excuse me"!)

4. Talking gross words in public. (Give yourself respect!)

5. sleeping in the middle of class discussions. (Better stay at home and lie down on your bed. You will feel better there.)

6. Getting and using some body's things without the owner's permission.

7. Cheating. (I am sure that you, yourself, do not want to be cheated.)

8. Stepping on some one's shoe/s.

9. Shouting at some one's ear without any reason.

10. Touching your friends' private parts. (will you please be decent?)

Well, if you are guilty, then better change!
